Ultra Power / The trash
A trash for ChatGPT
ChatGPT has no trash. Delete a conversation there and it is gone in that second, with no undo for you and none for OpenAI support either. Ultra Power puts a trash in front of that: chats you delete leave your list straight away, sit in a list you can read, and come back with one click. 12 hours on the free plan, 7 days on Pro.
What ChatGPT actually does when you delete
It deletes. Ask its own backend for a conversation you removed a minute ago and it answers
404 conversation_deleted, can_retry false. That is the response, not our reading of
a policy page. There is no recycle bin, no 30 day window, no support ticket that brings it back.
Which is fine when you meant it, and expensive the one time you did not. Most people find that out while clearing a hundred old chats and only then noticing the one with the contract draft in it.
What the trash does instead
- 1Delete
Tick the chats you want gone and click Move to trash. They disappear from your ChatGPT list immediately, so the clean-up feels done.
- 2Change your mind
Click Trash in the sidebar toolbar. Every deleted chat is listed by title, with how long ago you deleted it and how long is left.
- 3Restore
Restore puts one chat back. Tick several and restore the set. Or hit Undo in the toolbar to reverse the whole batch you just ran, even after a page reload.
The trade-off, stated plainly. During the window, a trashed chat is archived on OpenAI's side rather than deleted. It is out of your list and out of your way, but it still exists in your account. That is exactly what makes restoring it possible.
So if you are clearing chats for privacy rather than for tidiness, do not wait for the window to close. Open the trash and use Delete now, which is immediate and final.
How long you get
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Restore window | 12 hours | 7 days |
| Batches kept for undo | Last 20 | Last 100 |
| Chats per bulk action | Up to 25 | Unlimited |
| Delete now | Yes | Yes |
When the window closes, the extension deletes those chats from ChatGPT for good, on its own. One thing to know: that purge needs the extension installed and enabled. Turn it off and nothing is permanently deleted, the chats stay archived, and the next run catches up.
Why the undo survives a reload
A bulk run does not happen in the page. It runs in the extension's background worker, and the snapshot of what it touched is written to your browser's storage before the first chat moves. So the Undo button is still there after you switch tabs, close the tab, or reload. The toast that offered it is not the only way back, which matters, because a toast is gone in four seconds and a regret takes longer than that.
Everything here is local. Titles, ids, the trash and the undo snapshots are stored in your browser. No account, no server of ours, no telemetry. The only network traffic is the extension calling chatgpt.com on your behalf, exactly as the site would.
